This is a web-oriented infrastructure mostly dedicated to Orcas - for now.
Why are we doing this?
The internet was made by geeks, but they were funded by the military (have some politics, nerds). Then it got adopted by the finance devils. Then hordes of nerds started doing fun, informative things with it. Then the fat cats came and enshittified it again.
The Internet had a good run, but:
What can we do about it?
I had a few web projects but also a crippling laziness and lacking people coordination skills. Then a friend’s b-day made me push a bit faster to showcase othernet.tech/orcas.html (an important resource for people in urgent need for the best Orca facts and pictures).
This is set as a collaborative project. The computers that run it are made from trash, scraps and donations. Can it do more? Yes. It can do what I manage to, what the hardware can stand, and what the motivated nerds I know want and manage to contribute. My next project is charting financial gains on a map with death events from natural disasters, climate change and violence, in sequential time frames – as a gif. The Othernet welcomes anyone with rebellious intent and an idea. I’ll give technical support, hosting, and external access to my home lab if needed. It can also have cats, and doggos.
Nein, it’s mine! JK, you can propose services if you have programming skills or a Linux nerd rage You can write a web page if you have expertise on politically/socially important topics. I’ll host it for us
